Eric Lefkofsky is not only the CEO and founder of Tempus, but he is also a philanthropist with a generous giving streak. His wife and he made the choice in 2013 to join the giving pledge, which is a campaign that encourages wealthy people around the world to support philanthropic causes. They have also formed a charity trust named The Lefkofksy Foundation, which supports scientific, educational, and charitable causes and organizations around the world. With a focus on helping children, the foundation donates to over 50 organizations and some of these are the Art Institute of Chicago, Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, Duke Medicine, Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, After School Matters, Young Women’s Leadership Charter School, The Representation Project, Planned Parenthood, and Shining Hope for Communities.
Eric Lefkofsky is very active in his own community of Chicago and is a member of the board of directors for the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, the board of directors of The Museum of Science and Industry, the board of directors of The Art Institute of Chicago, and is a Trustee of Steppenwolf Theatre Company. He is also the co-chairman of the Technology Council for World Business Chicago. Eric teaches classes at business schools in the Chicago area and has taught disruptive business models, entrepreneurship and building technology-based businesses, and Applied Technology. He also published his own book, Accelerated Disruption, which covers how disruptive businesses can and do break into an industry by offering something much greater than what is currently being offered at any given time.
Lefkofsky graduated with honors from the University of Michigan and went on to earn his Juris Doctor at the University of Michigan Law School. He has applied his experience and learning to everything he has done and at his latest company, Tempus, it is helping to redefine the way that physicians treat cancer. He has pledged to continue his dedication to helping people and will lead his company into partnerships that he hopes will change the world.
